Lights for Human Dignity
Lights for Human Dignity ~ Leave Your Lights On Election Eve!! http://www.lightsfordignity.org/ “This past Memorial Day eve, thousands of people across America sent a message of unity to the world against the atrocities committed in Abu Ghraib prison and against Americans and others in Iraq. As a symbolic act of respect for human dignity, lights were left shining in homes and houses of worship. Thank you for participating! Six months after reports exposed this dehumanizing abuse in Iraq, we continue to receive news of widespread brutality and violence. This shouts out the need for social justice and prison reform to bring about peace both abroad and here in the United States. We believe social justice and human dignity are non-partisan issues and are the cornerstones of every faith and religion throughout the world. On Monday night before the General Election, as we prepare to vote, The Interfaith Alliance asks that people engage in the simple, yet powerful act of leaving their lights on in homes, businesses, houses of worship, and community centers. We ask that you keep the symbolic lights of justice burning through the dawn of our Election Day. Let this act make a public statement that you are committed to civic participation in support of universal values of social justice and human dignity and that these values must be embraced by every society, including ours. On the eve of this critical election, please join us and let your light shine as a beacon that you are devoted to peace and justice in Iraq, in the United States, and around the world.” ---- Related Sites InterFaith Alliance http://www.tialliance.org/ InterFaith Alliance Links http://www.interfaithalliance.org/Election2004/Election2004List.cfm?c=84#denominational
